Abstract
The efficacy of this new chemo-thera-peutic agent was measured by daily cultures on cases, carriers and alternate controls. The infections were cut short by treatment. The significance of this in control was examined. A group of 205 inmates of a mental hospital in Puerto Rico, in which the infection was known to be spreading, were observed. Recognized cases and carriers were treated. Without other methods of control the infection was rapidly reduced in prevalence. The same procedure in a New York State institution readily eradicated an infection which had been endemic in one group for 2 yrs. and in another for 18 months. It was also employed with promising results as a procedure for the control of endemic diarrheal diseases in a military unit. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
