Abstract
A parametric study has been made of the transmission of a burst of plasma through a 90° sector of magnetic field. Polarization fields are inhibited during the early phase of plasma entry into the bend, allowing complete transmission of the fast part of the plasma (densities ∼ 1011/cm3). As the input density exceeds that for which the polarization field is inhibited, drifts occur which rapidly reduce the plasma transmission to zero. This transition appears to depend only upon the input density and magnetic field of the bend. Keywords
