Abstract
The reviewer includes measurements of the cone, of K, Na, Cl, Mg, Ca, P fractions, lipids, and creatin in dystrophic muscle and other tissues from the same animals; of O2 consumption by isolated muscle and the intact animal; of the chronaxie and strength of dystrophic muscle. He discusses the apparently insignificant changes in the non-striated muscle of animals on a vit. E deficient diet, and the confused assertions concerning the nervous system. He summarizes his review with the generalization "that vit. E plays an essential part in the metabolism of skeletal muscle in all spp. of mammals that have been investigated and in ducklings. It has not been satisfactorily shown that vit. E is essential to the integrity of the nervous system." He poses further problems in this field. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
