Abstract
Earlier calculations of f -values from the f -sum rule had not made allowance for transitions violating LS -coupling. An evaluation of this effect has now made it possible to establish an absolute scale for Fe I that is independent of experimental work, and to correct the extensive gf measurements of Corliss and Warner on to that scale. The corrected gf values are in satisfactory agreement with recent laboratory measurements and do not show any strong deviations depending on either λ or E.P.
