Abstract
Infection of potato tubers by the soft-rotting fungi Phytophthora erythroseptica and Pythium debaryanum resulted in multiplication of endogenous tuber bacteria. This effect was not evident after infection by dryrotting fungi. Some of the bacteria isolated produced pectolytic and hemicellulolytic enzymes in vitro and were themselves capable under certain conditions of degrading tuber tissue. Keywords
