PULMONARY ADENOMATOSIS

Abstract
Pulmonary adenomatosis is a rare disease in humans, probably neoplastic in origin, resembling zaagziekte in sheep. The pathologic criteria for the diagnosis of this disease are: (1) alveolar cell proliferation, characterized by the appearance of cuboidal or tall columnar mucous-producing cells. (2) absence of an intrinsic tumor of the bronchial tree, and (3) absence of adenocarcinoma elsewhere in the body. A clinical diagnosis should be suspected in cases with: a chronic pulmonary disease in which there are repeated attacks of acute pneumonia; a nonspecific patchy or homogeneous infiltration on the roentgeno-gram, and the production of a large amt. of thin, watery, mucoid, "soapsuds-like" sputum.
