Abstract
A detailed comparison of the male genitalia of D. pseudoobscura and D. persimilis was undertaken, using 10 strains of each derived from flies collected in various parts of the geographical distr. Stocks were maintained at 16[degree]C. After male flies were macerated in 10% KOH and washed in water, the genitalia were stained with carbol-fuchsin and mounted in glycerol. Ten measurements were made from each strain by use of an ocular micrometer. Although the structures of the genital arch and the hypandrium in both spp. were alike, there were clear-cut differences in dimensions and proportions of the penis. Penis index was computed as the ratio, length of penis, width of lamina. Since each sp. has its own index, a diagnostic feature has been found for identifying the sibling spp. Keywords
