Spin Correlations and Magnetic Order in Nonsuperconducting Nd_{2-x}Ce_xCuO_4
Abstract
We report quantitative neutron scattering measurements of the evolution with doping of the antiferromagnetic correlations, the Neel temperature, and the ordered moment of non-superconducting Nd_{2-x}Ce_xCuO_4 (0 < x < 0.18). The instantaneous correlation length is well described by our quantum Monte-Carlo calculations for the randomly site-diluted nearest-neighbor S=1/2 square-lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnet. However, the itineracy of the charge carriers results in a relatively strong dopingdependence of the ordered moment, consistent with recent theory for the one-band Hubbard model and indicative of a possible quantum critical point well below the geometric site percolation threshold. Keywords
