“Straight is the Bamboo Tree”

Abstract
This article expresses the author's concerns regarding three issues germane to the field of learning disabilities. First, the nature and quality of research in this field need a careful examination both in terms of methodology and in terms of the substantive issues which are involved. Secondly, the divisive actions of leaders in the field serve only to fragmatize and to develop hostilities rather than to bring about a harmony of ideas. Thirdly, issues of mainstreaming advocated by some professional persons are not accomplishing the desired ends and are resulting in both parental and professional backlashes which are detrimental to the field and to the children involved.
