Abstract
Comparison of six systems of cattle grazing in the absence of applied fertilizer showed that the growth phases of individual species were modified but not altered fundamentally by the treatments. Changes in the amount of individual species were small for the first 2 years but showed clearly in the 3rd and 4th years. There was no suggestion that there was a critical time when a species was particularly vulnerable to cattle grazing. There was, however, a positive correlation between the mean value for cover of Holcus lanatus and Dactylis glomerate during 1954 (2nd year of treatment) and the amount present in 1957. The behaviour of some species of the sward is discussed. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
