Abstract
The spontaneous formation of a finite-amplitude density wave of hcp lattice symmetry is discussed, following the work of Ramakrishnan and Yussouff. The freezing parameters do not depend on the interatomic force law, contain no adjustable parameters, and can be improved perturbatively. The results agree very well with those from computer simulation for a wide range of systems. Keywords
