Abstract
The moss B. algens Card, occurs in ice-free areas of continental Antarctica, the Antarctic Peninsula, and sub-antarctic South Orkney and South Shetland Islands. In the Vestfold Hills. East Antarctica B. algens grows in both terrestrial and freshwater lake habitats. Deposits of in situ fossil aquatic B. algens from lake sediments at 2 sites were radiocarbon dated at .apprx. 8000 and 450 B.P. B. algens apparently did not survive in the Vestfold Hills during the terminal Pleistocene advance of the antarctic ice sheet. it reinvaded the hills during the Holocene from refugia well beyond the hills, possibly outside Antarctica. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
