Abstract
There has been growing recognition of an indolent form of anaerobic endophthalmitis occurring after extracapsular cataract extraction caused byPropionibacterium acnes. There have been 16 cases of this entity reported in the literature and all but 1 have been due toP acnes(the species was not identified in the sole remaining case).1To our knowledge, this is the first report of aP acnes-type endophthalmitis caused by the related organism,Propionibacterium granulosum, indicating that the ability to produce this unique clinical syndrome is not limited toP acnes.
