Long-term Efficacy and Safety of Piracetam in the Treatment of Progressive Myoclonus Epilepsy

Abstract
MYOCLONUS consists of sudden, irregular muscle jerks unassociated with loss of consciousness.1 Progressive myoclonus epilepsy (PME) represents an uncommon epilepsy syndrome caused by a large number of rare specific genetic disorders. In its fully developed form, the syndrome consists of myoclonic jerks, tonic-clonic seizures, mental retardation, and ataxia.2 Myoclonic jerks are often difficult to control in these conditions and usually are an important cause of disability in activities of daily living.
