Abstract
Bacterial counts were performed on specimens of resected colon from 21 patients receiving the Goldring protocol of bowel preparation, i.e. oral administration of kanamycin and metronidazole 3 days prior to the operation. The density of the colonic bacterial population was found to be slightly reduced in relation to the initial intestinal flora and its composition was completely modified being composed mainly of kanamycin-resistant aerobic bacteria. Keywords
