Abstract
In commission of the Dutch Government (Ministry of Public Works), the Delft Hydraulics Laboratory carries out a long term research programme on the water quantity and water quality of the Rhine-Meuse estuary. The research programme has to provide the necessary hydraulic data as Input for a management decision-making process. The programme is based on an "integrated approach philosophy" with respect to the various subjects to be studied and the research tools to be used (data from nature, hydraulic model, mathematical models and fundamental research). The paper presents the essentials and backgrounds of the research programme and discusses some first results.Keywords
