Abstract
The localization of cytochrome oxidase in plant cells by means of the nadi reaction or Burstone''s p-aminodiphenylamine and 8-amino-terra -hydroquinoline is interfered with by the presence of peroxidase, par -ticularly on cell walls. Incubation of sections of Vinca minor in low concentrations of catalase prevented the peroxidative oxidation of these reagents. These findings suggest that the alleged localization of cytochrome oxidase on the walls of plant cells is an artifact.
