Abstract
To the Editor: There are several reports of rhythm disturbances occurring during treatment with cimetidine.1 2 3 We report atrial fibrillation, multifocal premature ventricular contractions, ventricular tachycardia, and ventricular fibrillation, associated with impaired left ventricular function, that occurred during intravenous therapy with cimetidine.A 50-year-old male alcoholic presented in hepatic precoma after hematemesis. An electrocardiogram showed a prolonged QT interval (QTc, 0.53 sec). The cardiac size was normal on a chest film, and the upper-lobe vessels were not dilated, but there were small bilateral pleural effusions consistent with noncardiac edema. The serum albumin was 28 g per liter, the potassium . . .Keywords
