Abstract
The polarizability of the deuteron is calculated for several assumed deuteron wave functions, and the values obtained are compared with previous results. The best value is 0.63× . The method used gives an approximate wave function of the deuteron in the nuclear electric field. The approximations of the method are examined and are found to be best for low-energy deuterons incident on relatively light nuclei.
