Abstract
By treating serum with an anti-coagulant, "Liquoid" (Na polyanethol sulfonate) it is possible to obtain 2 fractions[long dash]a precipitate, containing almost all the albumin, and a supernatant containing euglobulin and some pseudoglobulin. By substituting each of these for the fraction V albumin in the Dubos medium, it was shown that the sediment had no effect, but that the supernatant caused rapid multiplication of [image]tuberculosis. Other constituents of the medium were re-examined, and the optimum amts. were 0.1-0.5% glucose, 0.1-0.5% asparagine, and 0.02-0.1% Tween 80. 0.002 mg. per 100 ml. of ferrous ammonium citrate improved the growth. When this medium was enriched with a glycerol extract of [image]phlei. growth was obtained with certain strains of N. johnei.
