New Bi-Based Garnet Films for Magnetic-Bubble Devices with Magneto-Optic Applications

Abstract
LPE films of BixTm3−xGayFe5−yO12 have been grown strain‐free on (111) Gd3Ga5O12 substrates. Films with x ≃ 0.6 , 0.8<y<1.2 have relatively stable temperature characteristics, adequate mobility and are compatible with densities of 106–107 bits per square inch. The Faraday rotation is ten times higher than in the conventional bubble garnets, making these Bi‐based films suitable for bubble devices with magneto‐optic applications.
