Abstract
The influence of inelastic scattering on the elastic differential cross section for electron scattering is investigated. With the aid of the Born approximation for the description of the inelastic scattering and the use of closure to sum over all final states of the target, and inhomogeneous differential equation for the elastic scattering wavefunction is obtained. Rather than approximately converting this equation into potential scattering form, the inhomogeneous equation is solved exactly. However, the long-range behaviour of an effective potential for the problem is analyzed and the strong energy dependence on the incident electron energy is discussed. Keywords
