Abstract
A series of packaged foods was exposed to lindane vaporized at the rate of approximately 1 g per 16,240 ft. per 24 hours. The foods were exposed for varying periods of time up to 4 months, then analysed for lindane. No commercial package tested (box-board, kraft paper, cellophane, glassine or aluminum foil) was found to resist penetration of lindane vapor completely. The effectiveness of package closures markedly affected the penetration of lindane vapor. The order of decreasing penetration of packaging materials was boxboard, kraft paper, cellophane (2 layers), aluminum foil laminated to paper, boxboard with a laminated liner paper, and boxboard with a glassine liner. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
