Abstract
The use of figurative language materials in empirical research presents a complex set of issues: (a) the overriding complexity of figurative language, (b) the origins or sources of materials, (c) the role of expertise in materials construction, (d) the problem of ineffective materials, (e) generalizability as it pertains to the question of fixed versus random factors. Keywords
