Determination of refractive index and ellipticity of an unclad elliptical optical fibre

Abstract
A simple, fast, accurate and nondestructive method of measuring the refractive index and ellipticity of an elliptic optical fibre is presented. This method requires only the measurement of the rainbow angles of the backward scattered patterns of the laser beams parallel to the major and minor axes of the ellipse.
