Etude tectonique de la zone des breches du massif de Sainte-Victoire dans la region du Tholonet (Bouches-du-Rhone)

Abstract
The structure of the Tholonet breccia zone is characterized by block fracturing and by a south plunging anticline. The Infernet gorge section shows normal superposition of the Rognacian over the Begudian breccia which resulted from pre-Maestrichtian orogenic movements. The Montian breccia, which lies discordantly above, marks a tectonic phase which, at the beginning of the Eocene, affected the new Sainte-Victoire anticline. With the exception of the Roques-Hautes area, where the brecciated facies extends throughout the Rognacian, the two main conglomeratic beds are of Begudian and Montian age, as in the area north of Saint Antonin. The breccias correspond to pebble deposits in a lake or a frequently inundated depression. The upper Eocene folding caused the north-northeast-south-southwest flexure at Doudon.
