Abstract
The method of choice for the routine estimation of large numbers of sera would appear to be that of Folin (1930) modified for use with the autoanalyser. The uricase technique of Praetorius and Poulsen (1953) and Gjorup, Poulsen, and Praetorius (1955) should be used for special projects where absolute uric acid values are required. All uric acid estimations should be carried out under critically standardized conditions with the routine incorporation of quality control and recovery experiments. The normal ranges for men and for pre- and post-menopausal women, by the method routinely employed in the laboratory, should be determined. Details of quality control, recoveries, and normal ranges should be included in all publications to facilitate the comparison of results. Keywords
