Abstract
The onset of this disease is characterized by vomiting and diarrhea. After a symptom-free interval of one to ten days the second phase of the illness appears, at which time hemoly-tic anemia, thrombocytopenia, and nephropathy are seen. The cause of this syndrome remains unknown; however, evidence is accumulating that it may be a viral infection in which subsequently developing hyper-sensitivity mechanisms may play a role. Treatments consists of supportive measures. The mortality rate currently appears to be about 30%.Keywords
