Parasite-induced susceptibility of moose to hunting

Abstract

Moose heavily infected with Echinococcus granulosus cysts are more susceptible to being killed by hunters than are uninfected or lightly infected animals. The data suggest that a reduction in moose hydatid disease may be amenable to management strategies involving selective hunting.
