Theoretical and experimental evaluation of high permittivity dielectric rod waveguides

Abstract
The method of least-squares residuals has been applied to the problem of symmetrically loaded waveguides with dielectric inserts where the dielectric material may have a very high and anisotropic dielectric constant, such as rutilo (TiO2). The dispersion characteristics and cut-off frequencies of the three lowest order modes have been analysed for varying cross-section dimensions. Comparison with experiments shows an excellent agreement. The theory is also applied to a calculation of an image lino isolator, again showing an excellent agreement with experiments.
