Abstract
Fractionation of dialyzable, amphoteric extracts of fresh mammalian brain gave substances which inhibited the "slow" closer and opener systems of the crayfish (Cambarus virilis) claw. Glutamic acid was one of the substances. Aspartic acid and [gamma]-amino-butyric acid were also active. Glutamic acid has an inhibitory effect and aspartic acid had a stimulatory effect on the crayfish heart. Keywords
