Nonlinear stability analysis in multilayer quasigeostrophic systems

Abstract
A sufficient condition for nonlinear stability of steady solutions of the quasigeostrophic equations in a multilayer system is found. It proves the stability of given shear flows in a two-layer model that were known to be neutrally stable only.Keywords
