Abstract
As76 was administered as K arsen-ite to mice, rats, rabbits, and man. Less than 10% of the excreted As was found in the feces. In contrast to the other spp. studied, rats excrete As very slowly and the retained As is concentrated markedly in the erythrocytes. Data describing organ distr. are included and show that individual variation within a sp. is great. The ratio of concn. in the kidney, liver, and spleen of the mice is fairly constant for a given time after admn. and it is suggested as a criterion for the effects of types of treatment. With the use of this criterion it was found that the KLS ratio is altered by the presence of transplanted tumors. Factors affecting As distribution are discussed in relation to effects on levels of -SH-containing substances. Keywords
