The Adnexal Branches of the Uterine Artery

Abstract
Of the 171 cases examined by pelvic arteriog-raphy, the uterine artery was seen to send a branch to the adnexa in 69. The width, course, and branching of the adnexal artery were investigated in the cases of salpingitis, tumors of the ovary, tubal pregnancy, amenorrhea, and normal intra-uterine pregnancy, with cases of normal adnexa serving as Controls. The artery presented such characteristic changes in many cases of ovarian tumor and tubal pregnancy that their arteriographic appearances were diagnostic. The width of the artery increased after treatment with ovarian hormones in cases of amenorrhea. This in vivo investigation confirmed observations made by earlier workers on autopsy specimens investigated by the injn. technique that the distr. of the uterine and ovarian arteries in the adnexa varies greatly.
