Abstract
Using the generalized canonical (Hamiltonian) formalism, the second-class system comprising complex scalars coupled to a Chern-Simons term is converted into first class. It leads to a new Wess-Zumino-type embedding which cannot be obtained by conventional Lagrangian methods. Keywords
