Abstract
The presentation is based on the experience gained in developing and running a course on mathematical modelling for graduate teachers of mathematics, from secondary schools and colleges of F.E., on an M.Sc. course in Mathematical Education. Details are discussed of the rationale, objectives and content of the course, together with assessment methods. Illustrative examples are referred to in the three main areas of the course: physical sciences/technology; life sciences; social/management sciences. Difficulties encountered in finding appropriate problems to be modelled, for a given level of mathematical and general maturity, are identified. Much of the material developed is relevant to courses at the undergraduate level. Keywords
