Abstract
The structure of a binary fluid mixture of hard spheres of different diameters is studied using both computer simulation by the Monte Carlo method and density functional theory. The density functional used contains a term third order in the densities, chosen to ensure that sum rules previously obtained are satisfied. The density functional also uses the two-particle direct correlation function of the homogeneous fluid. For this work, this function is approximated by the PY result obtained by Lebowitz and this limits the accuracy of the theory. Within this limit, the agreement between the theoretical results and the simulated results for the density profiles of the two species in the fluid is good. Keywords
