Abstract
An understanding of the biosynthetic path way (s) of cytokinins would provide basic knowledge for regulating the hormone in plant cell division and differentiation. Two biosynthetic pathways have been reported for cytokinins: the de novo pathway 1-5 and the tRNA pathway. 6-7 While the turnover of cytokinin containing tRNAs may be one of the sources of cytokinins, there is no conclusive evidence that this alone could represent an adequate source to supply the need for cytokinin in plant cells, especially considering the rapid metabolic turnover rate of free cytokinins in cells. It is very likely that the de novo biosynthetic pathway reported in plants, 2 , 8-11 Dictyostelium, 1 , 12 and some microorganisms 3-5 , 13-17 plays an important role in cytokinin biosynthesis. Keywords
