The determination of chloride in animal tissues

Abstract
A method is described for the complete extraction of chloride from animal tissues by means of boiling water. The chloride in the extract is estimated by boiling with excess AgNO3 and concentrated HNO3 and carrying out a Volhard titration on the filtrate. A criticism is given of Christy and Robson''s method for estimating chlorides in biological fluids. It is shown that the estimation of AgNO3 by titration with KI in the presence of KIO3, HIO3 and HNO3, using starch as an indicator, can not be quantitative because starch and iodine give a blue color only in the presence of soluble iodides.
