Abstract
A two-layer model of the Jovian clouds consisting of an upper cloud layer and a lower semi-infinite cloud separated by a clear space is investigated. A satisfactory fit to the measured equivalent widths of the H2 quadrupole lines is obtained with ≃15 km amagat (am) H2 above the upper cloud and ≃50 km am in the clear space below if the diffuse transmission of the upper cloud ≃0.5. Weak absorption lines formed in this model will yield larger abundances than strong lines if analyzed under the assumption of a discrete reflecting model. Keywords
