Abstract
During the past two years, the Archives has ventured some modest innovations in the form of Editorial Reviews and the occasional publication of Symposia. These seem to have been well received and will be continued whenever authors and organizers submit suitable material. The editors are reluctant to reduce the space available for the publication of new manuscripts, so that proposals for the publication of symposia should include methods for funding the additional necessary pages. The section on Brief Communications has only partly succeeded in fulfilling the purposes we initially held for it. The editors hoped this section, which trades the advantage of more rapid review and publication for brevity of length (less than 1,200 words and a total of three figures or tables), would serve as a vehicle for rapid publication of new findings in clinical and scientific work, particularly when the results might influence patient care.
