Abstract
Authors using these combinations have not attempted to show that a strain of var. terminalis differs in any way from strains of Bacillus cereus or that a strain of var. thermoacidurans can be distinguished from strains of Bacillus coagulans. As information has not been offered to substantiate the systematic position of these varieties and the varietal combinations have not been validly published, the names B. cereus var. terminalis and B. coagulans var. thermoacidurans are illegitimate. It is suggested that the strains that have been given these illegitimate names be designated in the future by an appropriate strain number or name, such as B. cereus strain Illinois. Keywords
