Abstract
The inheritance of two spontaneous green variants of Gracilaria sp. has been investigated. Both variants were transmitted as single recessive mutations. Complementation and recombination tests indicated the mutants were defective in different, unlinked loci. The primary metabolic defect in the mutants has not been identified, but examination of crude pigment extracts revealed a substantial decrease in phycoerythrin.
