Abstract
The time-dependent variational principle is applied to generate semiclassical approximations in the description of inelastic collisions in one dimension. This is acheived by using appropriately parametrized trial wave functions. The method is applied to an exactly solvable model and the results are fairly good, in general much better than other approximate calculations. Keywords
