Abstract
Every child psychiatrist in his daily work draws on a multiplicity of re sources from his diagnostic experiences. As this transcript of a lec ture to resident psychiatrists points out, any thorough understanding of the effects of physical illness and hospitalization upon a child calls for a synthesis of knowledge concerning genetic, maturational and devel opmental factors as well as insights into the psychodynamics of conflict. Keywords
