Medical and Surgical Care of Stroke

Abstract
Since the prognosis as well as the treatment of stroke may depend on a precise etiologic diagnosis, it is the author''s opinion that arteriography should be employed more frequently, especially if the clinical findings are in any way atypical. If proper technics are employed, the hazards of angiographic examination can be minimized so that permanent adverse effects might be expected in less than 2% of the cases. Emphasis should be directed toward depiction of intracranial circulation, for in more than 20% of the cases encountered by the author, the only abnormalities that were found were intracranial.
