Abstract
Four case examples demonstrate the significant complications that occur when a death in the family is combined with a family member having a mental handicap. Several counseling and education issues, as well as possible opportunities and techniques for intervention, are discussed. The importance of considering knowledge from both fields-menial handicap and thanatology-is stressed. Keywords
