Abstract
High-resolution electron microscopy (HREM) was performed on a modulated lattice structure (tweed structure) appearing prior to the FCC-FCT martensitic transformation of Fe-Pd alloys. The local lattice modulations of the cubic phase were quite irregularly distributed in the matrix, which supports the 'embryo model' of the tweed structure. Furthermore, the image simulation based on the model well reproduced the features observed in the high-resolution images. Keywords
