Abstract
Bluegreen lucerne aphid, Acyrthosiphon kondoi Shinji (Homoptera: Aphididae), feeding on individual plants of lucerne, Medicago sativa L. (cv. Wairau), in an insectary significantly affected yield components with infestation periods of 17, 32, 41 and 48 days following colonization with 20 aphids/plant. Dry weight was reduced at all feeding intensities but some plant components increased with increased feeding, e.g., number of leaves, number of secondary stems, and growth of side branches. A reduction in overall plant height and leaf area accompanied increased feeding. Root diameter and dry weight decreased, implying reduced reserves for subsequent plant growth. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
