A photo-emission comparison of superconducting and semiconducting YBa2Cu3Ox

Abstract
Measurements are presented of the photo-emission spectra of superconducting and semiconducting YBa2Cu3Ox in the photon energy range 50 to 180 eV. Very broadly the main features of the spectra are in agreement with earlier results although a 5s resonance and a precursor to the main 5p resonance of barium are more prominent than previously reported. The main differences between the spectra from the superconducting and semi-conducting samples are in (i) the positions and breadths of the 5s and 5p barium emissions, (ii) the relative intensities of the 5s and 5p barium resonances, and (iii) the intensity of the 12 eV satellite at resonance at the Cu 3p threshold.
